Ji-Yeon Shin

Originally from South Korea, Ji Yeon Shin holds a Master’s degree in Violin Performance from Pennsylvania State University and a Graduate Professional Diploma for Violin Performance from The Hartt School of Music. She received a D.M.A. in Violin Performance with a secondary emphasis in Violin Pedagogy at the University of Oregon, where she has served as a graduate teaching fellow under the guidance of Kathryn Lucktenberg in 2018. She also has served the Community Music Institute as a registered Suzuki teacher, a chamber music coach, and an assistant for the Music and Movement classes. She completed the Teacher Training Workshop instructed by Dr. Lili Levinowitz, the Music Together Coauthor and Director of Research in 2016. She received Suzuki teacher training (Unit 1 to Unit 5) from Joseph Kaminsky, Marilyn O’Boyle, Allen Lieb, Sherry Cadow and Edmund Sprunger from 2014 to 2018 while she finished her Music Mind Game training.
Dr. Shin has performed as part of the Seoul Youth Orchestra in South Korea, and the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra. She has also given solo and chamber recitals in Korea, the United States, and participated in various orchestra concerts for music festivals in the United States and Canada. During her graduate studies in Pennsylvania State University, she was a member of the Graduate String Quartet as a teaching assistant of James Lyon. As a founding member of the Alpaca String Quartet and studying with Dr. Katie Lansdale at The Hartt School, Dr. Shin actively served the community and arranged many community outreach recitals and performances. The quartet also worked with Mr. Michael Tree from the Guarneri Quartet, Dr. Katie Lansdale and Mr. Darrett Adkins from Lions Gate Trio, and Chiara String Quartet. The quartet was nominated as the Fellowship String Quartet for the Chamber Music Institute in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as well as the Resident String Quartet for the Aria International Music Academy in the summer of 2014.
Dr. Shin has been teaching violin since 2007 in Korea and the United States and is also a registered Suzuki teacher to Unit 5
