Elaine Chen

Elaine began her cello studies with the Timothy Landauer, principal cellist of the Pacific Symphony.  She studied under Gayle Smith and Dr. Margaret Parkins at the University of California, Irvine.  While at UCI, she received the Marjorie Rawlins Scholarship, was the cellist of the resident Rawlins Quartet and received several ArtsBridge scholarships to provide music instruction to high school students in the Orange County area.  She also received the Education Abroad Program Scholarship to study in the UK under Ian Ludford at the University of Birmingham.  Elaine received her Masters from New York University studying with Marion Feldman.

Elaine participated in Master Classes with renowned cellists including Yo-Yo Ma and Nathaniel Rosen.  She has received to scholarships to attend summer festivals studying with John Walz at The Idyllwild School of Music and Maureen McDermott at Park City International Music Festival with an emphasis on chamber music.  

While maintaining a private studio, Elaine taught at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, Woodbridge High School, performed with and coached several orchestras including the Pacific Youth Symphony Orchestra, Irvine Youth orchestras, Children’s Youth Orchestra of Southern California.
